Convincing somebody they backed the wrong horse is one of the hardest things to do in politics. Voting for someone creates a level of ownership in their performance; it also blinds us to mistakes once in office. It’s simple- we want the people we vote for to do well, so we subconsciously go to great lengths to rationalize or ignore anything which would tarnish our perceptions. This leads us to the people who voted for Donald Trump because they believed his campaign promises. I have many, many friends who voted for Donald Trump and now fall into this category. Before the election, I maintained my line of respecting everyone’s opinion without trying to influence their decisions; although I am a political animal by nature, I rarely engage with other people…

I happened to stumble across this journalistic gem on the website of WPXI, the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh: On the surface, it seems innocuous, right? Now here is how WPXI framed the issue on their Facebook page: Awww, how nice. The news station wants to hear what people think about Amazon’s voluntary efforts to help those in need, right? Uh, not so much. Look at the way the question is phrased- “What do you think of the discount?”; it’s designed to make sure readers know somebody is getting a deal on something and it isn’t them. But don’t worry, this is social media, so I’m sure everyone will conduct themselves with respect and mutual admiration, right? Let’s take a little stroll to the comments section… Does anyone believe for one…

By now, the entire world has seen the photo of self-admitted D-List Nobody Kathy Griffin holding up a fake severed head of President Donald Trump. The outcry has been predictably deafening from all sides, so I thought I’d try to break down why we should all be pissed off over this stupid stunt. This wasn’t a political statement; it was a selfish publicity stunt. I have no problem with a person taking bold actions to generate attention to a noble political cause, but that’s not what Griffin did. This was all about her trying to get press for being outrageous; for what it’s worth, it’s fair to say she may have outkicked her coverage in this regard because she certainly got plenty of press over the photo. What was the…

In these times of political and social uncertainty, people look to those who they trust for information. And given the tone and tenor of the public discourse lately, it makes absolute sense for people to turn to Pornhub, the largest pornography site on the planet, for news they just can’t get anywhere else. At this point, I’m supposed to give you a witty punchline because this sounds too absurd to be true. Instead, I say, “Welcome to 2017. Leave your expectations outside before you come in for the crazy.” Here we go: Alexey Navalny is a Russian blogger who has spoken out against corruption in his country, so as you can imagine, Vladamir Putin isn’t a fan of his work. Navalny recently posted a documentary accusing the Russian Prime Minister…

The Washington Post broke a bombshell story Friday night detailing how Jared Kushner, advisor extraordinaire to President Donald Trump, asked the Russian Ambassador to use their communication facilities to set up a secret back-channel link between the Trump transition team and the Kremlin. This starting revelation is forcing even the most devout partisans to start asking what the actual fuck is going on here. Ambassador Sergei Kislyak reported to his superiors in Moscow that Kushner, son-in-law and confidant to then-President-elect Trump, made the proposal during a meeting on Dec. 1 or 2 at Trump Tower, according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by U.S. officials. Kislyak said Kushner suggested using Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States for the communications. – Washington Post But don’t worry; Michael Flynn…

So this happened yesterday: Listen: Republican candidate Greg Gianforte ‘body-slams’ Guardian reporter. Full story: https://t.co/5dNBnS1gAx pic.twitter.com/fRtxnQWuLo — Guardian US (@GuardianUS) May 25, 2017 Yup, that’s Greg Gianforte, a candidate for the United States House of Representatives body-slamming a reporter who had the audacity to ask him a question he didn’t like about public policy. Because ‘Merica, that’s why. While news outlets across Montana are withdrawing their support for Gianforte and national media outlets are making the obligatory (and in this case, accurate) noise about the treatment of a journalist being unacceptable, it all reinforces one undeniable fact. Greg Gianforte will absolutely, without a doubt, be the next Congressman from Montana, because that’s exactly how broken American politics are today. I know virtually nothing about this race, but I can tell…

In these highly polarizing times, there isn’t much Americans can all agree on, so in one way, we owe a debt of gratitude to Barry Baker of Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Why? Because after watching this video of Baker mocking and then punching a man with cerebral palsy, I think we can all universally agree that Barry Baker is a complete piece of human garbage. Take a look for yourself via video provided by Fox News 5 in Washington, DC: Okay, now that you’ve seen the video, can we all agree this guy is a piece of human garbage? Oh, and here’s some bonus points for running away when the cops came after you, Barry. And double bonus points for your defense of not knowing the assault was caught on tape. You’re a criminal mastermind.…

Like most parents, we stumble through the trials and tribulations of trying to reason with our toddlers. It’s tough to talk to, much less negotiate with, someone who is just as likely to accuse Bob the Builder of trying to smother him in his sleep as he is to respond to us. Our oldest will be three years old in a few weeks, so we realized it’s time to step up our efforts to ditch the binky because we all know if you use a binky for one moment past your third birthday, you are irreversibly scarred for life with a 68% chance of living in a van down by the river. (#scientificfact) So the wife and I discussed it for days, and to be honest, we had nothing until…

That damned Twitter account. In 140 characters, Donald Trump can undermine the media in a way never before seen in modern American politics. Trump is his own Fourth Estate, a persona mostly built, ironically enough, on a generation of voters distrustful of government after Watergate. It’s a perfect storm; a president with a brand based on a…
